Introduction

The recent severe flooding in Maiduguri, Borno State, has displaced hundreds of families, leaving them in urgent need of assistance. Tahara Collective, in partnership with the Movement for Islamic Culture & Awareness (MICA), Muslim Public Affairs Centre (MPAC), and Nigeria Aid Group, is committed to providing critical relief efforts to those affected by this tragedy.

Goals

The project goals include:

  • Immediate Relief: To provide essential necessities, such as food, water, shelter, medical supplies, and hygiene items, to affected families.
  • Long-Term Recovery: To support the rehabilitation and reconstruction of damaged homes and communities.
  • Community Empowerment: To foster resilience and self-sufficiency among the affected population.

Objectives

  • Distribution of Relief Supplies: To distribute food, water, blankets, tents, medical kits, and hygiene products to affected individuals and families.
  • Establishment of Temporary Shelters: To set up temporary shelters or provide support for displaced families to find suitable accommodation.
  • Medical Assistance: To provide medical care, including first aid, treatment of common ailments, and access to specialized medical services.
  • Psychological Support: To offer counseling and mental health services to individuals affected by the disaster.
  • Community Rehabilitation: To assist in the repair and reconstruction of damaged homes and infrastructure.
  • Capacity Building: To provide training and support to affected communities to enhance their resilience and self-sufficiency.

Expected Outcomes

  • Long-term recovery: Rehabilitation of damaged homes and infrastructure, community rebuilding, and enhanced resilience.

  • Needs Assessment: Conduct a thorough assessment to identify the most urgent needs of the affected population.
  • Resource Mobilization: Gather donations, both in-kind and financial, from individuals, organizations, and corporations.
  • Procurement and Distribution of Supplies: Purchase and distribute essential relief items to affected families.
  • Shelter Establishment: Set up temporary shelters or coordinate with local authorities to provide alternative housing options.
  • Medical Camps: Organize medical camps to provide essential healthcare services.
  • Community Outreach: Conduct outreach activities to inform the affected population about available assistance and services.
  • Rehabilitation Programs: Implement programs to support the repair and reconstruction of damaged homes and infrastructure.
  • Capacity Building Workshops: Organise workshops to equip affected communities with skills and knowledge for long-term recovery.

Partnerships

Monitoring and Evaluation Plan

A comprehensive monitoring and evaluation plan will be implemented to track the progress of the relief efforts and measure the impact of the interventions. Key indicators to be monitored include:

Data Collection Tools

  • Participant Attendance Sheets: Required for all participants to fill, to track planned attendance against the actuals
  • Participant Evaluation Forms: Distributed to all attendees at the end of the event to gather their feedback on various aspects of the discourse.
  • Social media monitoring: Tracking mentions of the event on social media platforms to gauge public sentiment and engagement.
  • Media coverage analysis: Analyzing news articles and media reports about the event to assess its reach and impact.

Anticipated Risks and Mitigation Strategies:

  • Risks: Insufficient funding, security challenges, logistics challenges, cultural sensitivity, environmental impact, fraud and corruption, delayed response.
  • Mitigation Strategies: Risk assessment, emergency preparedness, partnership building, monitoring and evaluation, communication and transparency, ethical conduct, and continuous learning.

By addressing these risks and implementing effective mitigation strategies, the relief project can enhance its effectiveness and sustainability.
